Opening Day - Yellowstone National Park

As the sun rises over Mt. Washburn it reveals a pristine wilderness, rich with wildlife and teeming with geothermal activity that makes the world’s first National Park sacred to so many people.

Today launches the 151st year of Yellowstone National Park.  Yellowstone started as a bold and grand experiment.  As the first of its kind, anywhere on earth, who could have imagined setting aside 2.2 million acres (over 3,500 square miles) “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people,” as Teddy Roosevelt proclaimed, would lead to 424 national park sites in the US and over 6,000 sites in more than 100 countries.

Opening Day is a special moment every year.  It is the only day visitors and locals line up to enter the park with wonder and excitement.  Whether it’s a first-time visitor or local’s 100th trip, today is the first day of the new season.  Just beyond that gate lies an adventure that can only be found in nature’s unspoiled wilderness.

Opening Day is not only new for tourists, rangers, and staff.  Opening Day in Yellowstone is bustling with new life.  Spring is upon the park and that means BABIES!!!  Newborn bison, bears, wolves, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, and otters and are frolicking throughout the Yellowstone Ecosystem.  Watching bear cubs and baby bison explore Yellowstone with the same wonder and amazement as park visitors is a one-of-a-kind experience.

Yellowstone Tours by Cody Shuttle (Cody Shuttle), has the privilege of guiding thousands of visitors through the park.  Opening Day means making memories as wonderous and grand as Yellowstone.   Whether we are hosting a retired couple making their first visit, a Scout Troop, Army buddies on vacation, or a 4-generation family reunion, their joy and wonder creates memories we will all carry for a lifetime.

What does Yellowstone mean to you?  If you have visited once, multiple times, or want to visit, we want to know why Yellowstone is special to you.
